OLD FORGE — Marty Ort, of Old Forge, is among 92 volunteers selected to work Little League World Series tournaments in 2017.
Ort has been selected to work the Junior Little League Baseball World Series in Taylor, Mich. Aug. 13-20.
Little League World Series events begin with the first four of seven tournaments opening July 30 and continue through the Little League Baseball World Series championship game in South Williamsport Aug. 27.
The selection process to become a World Series umpire begins with district administrators recommending umpires from their district to umpire in a regional tournament. Those volunteering to work at a regional tournament are evaluated and can be recommended for another regional tournament or the World Series level. Once on the World Series recommendation list, an umpire must indicate if he or she wants to be considered for those assignments.
Umpires can be selected for a World Series every four years, but can only be selected for the Little League Baseball World Series in South Williamsport once in a lifetime.
Chris Thomas, also of Old Forge, worked the Little League World Series in 2014 and served as one of the video review umpires at the 2016 series.
