EXETER – Wyoming Area returns its entire starting lineup.
As a result, the Warriors are looking for their third straight winning girls volleyball season – and more.
“We have everybody from our starting team returning for their senior year and very anxious to get started,” third-year coach Nick Diaco said.
The senior class features eight of the team’s top 10 players from a year ago and Diaco said the talent does not stop there.
Strong players ready to move up from last year’s junior varsity improve the team’s depth.
“We have a lot of 10th graders,” Diaco said. “A lot of them played as ninth graders.
“We’re trying to build a program. It starts with them.”
Jessica Sorick, a middle hitter who was a second-team all-star last season, leads the list of returning players.
She is joined by setter Rachel Solano, middle hitter Nicole Wright, Heather Nametko and power hitters Lindsey Klinges and Megan Wysocki.
Mikayla Klimas and Erin Donnelly complete the veteran group.
That experience has Wyoming Area in position to try to move up the ranks toward all but the top couple teams in the Wyoming Valley Conference, where Holy Redeemer remains the favorite until it loses to a WVC opponent for the first time.
Caleigh Anderson, Jonelle Olaviany and Darian Shaver appear to be the top players moving up from JV. Freshman Hunter Chervenitski could also figure into the rotation.
The Warriors (9-8) get their schedule started with a tough match Sept. 9 on the road against Crestwood, which went 14-3 last year to finish third in the 18-team conference. They again play one match each against every WVC opponent, including a Sept. 16 match at Pittston Area.
