Just two minutes into overtime, Wyoming Area’s Brendan Lee scored the game-winner as the Warriors took down cross-river rivals Pittston Area, 3-2, in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 boys soccer action on Thursday in Hughestown.
The winner was Lee’s second goal of the afternoon. He scored to tie the game at one early in the second half. Casey Orlando would cash in on a penalty kick midway through the half to put WA up 2-1.
Lee’s heroics came at the start of overtime, and moved the Warriors to 1-4 in WVC play. With the loss, Pittston Area dropped to 0-4 in league play.
The Patriots will be back in action on Monday, Sept. 19 with a match at Wyoming Valley West. The Warriors will host Tunkhannock.

Claus Nemitz scored a goal and made two assists in the first half as the Spartans jumped out quickly and handled Wyoming Area on Tuesday.

Pittston Area’s Taryn Ashby made 13 saves in the loss to Dallas on Tuesday. The Patriots got off four corners against the Mountaineers, but couldn’t get one past keeper Rachel Nelligan.
