September 2006
Led by Jessica Rydzewski’s 2-under-36 at Four Seasons, the Wyoming Area golf team cruised to a 152-180 win over Pittston Area. The win put the Warriors at 9-0 on the season.
Wyoming Area’s Ricky Misset was even par, while Rob Glycenfer and Mike Keaney each shot 40. For Pittston Area, Nikko Ardo shot a 40, while Pete Beczek and Carl Kiwak each shot a 45.
September 1996
The Pittston Area football team, led by the running of Chris Lenza, took care of Hazleton Area, 35-21, to improve to 2-1 on the young season.
Lenza carried the ball 28 times for 240 yards and two touchdowns. He finished with a 35-yard touchdown run and a 1-yard touchdown run. In the second quarter, quarterback Pat Pisano connected with AJ Calabrese for a 21-yard touchdown. Later in the second, Pisano hit tight end Andrew LaBrutte on a shuffle pass for a 73-yard touchdown.
Pisano completed 20 passes for 211 yards and two scores.
September 1986
In the first ever meeting between Pittston Area and Seton Catholic in boys soccer, the Eagles came out with a 4-3 win. The decision marked Seton’s first Wyoming Valley Conference win.
The Eagles took a 3-0 lead midway into the third on Ed Pietrowski’s third of his four goals in the game. Pittston Area’s Jack Thomas, Joe Wilbur and Jeff Merlino tied the game at three early in the final period. Pietrowski scored the game-winner late in the game.
September 1976
Pittston Area’s Carmen “Homer” LoPresto ran for 168 yards on 20 carries and scored two touchdowns in a 34-7 win over Bishop Hoban on the gridiron.
The Patriots racked up 275 yards rushing and 59 yards passing in the win. In the first, Ardoline hit Bruce Barbini for an 8-yard touchdown. Late in the third, quarterback Harry Ardoline scored on a short touchdown run. In the fourth, Sam Granteed intercepted a Hoban pass to set up a 6-yard touchdown run by Chick Andrewscavage.
