H.S. tennis: Greater Pittston doubles teams eliminated from district championships

KINGSTON — Pittston Area and Wyoming Area boys tennis teams competed in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association District 2 Doubles Championships held at Kirby Park.

In the Class AAA tournament, Pittston Area’s Jason Homschek and Johnathan Durling, the Patriots’ top two players this season, were awarded a bye past the first round. In the second round, the team was eliminated by Delaware Valley’s Ivan Vorobyev and Troy Tepedino, 6-2, 6-4.

The Pittston Area team of Nick Alfano, who played No. 3 singles for the Patriots most of the year, and Eric Fritz were eliminated by Wallenpaupack’s Myles Arenson and Donald Barry, 6-1, 7-5.

In the first round of the Class AA tournament, the Wyoming Area team of Alex Chronowski and Justin Alder were eliminated by Dunmore’s Paul Scalese and Joe Weber, 7-5, 6-4. The team of Joseph Skrip and Austin Alder were defeated by Holy Cross’ Josh Mesaris and Josh Megliola, 6-1, 6-0.
