High School Track and Field: Pittston Area, Wyoming Area girls teams remain undefeated

WEST PITTSTON – Wyoming Area and Pittston Area remained undefeated in Wyoming Valley Conference girls track and field with victories Thursday.

Wyoming Area, the defending champion in Division 2, shares the lead with Hanover Area at 2-0.

Pittston Area shares the Division 1 lead with Dallas at 3-0.

Wyoming Area girls 111 ½, Meyers 38 ½

Wyoming Area used a balanced effort, with eight athletes providing wins in two events, to get past Meyers, 111 ½ -38 ½.

Shelby Stackhouse, Laura Heinzlmeir and Vanessa Shedlock each won two individual events.

Stackhouse won the 100-meter hurdles and high jump. Heinzlmeir won the 1600 and 3200. Shedlock won the 400 and triple jump.

Jillian Spak and Jen Yencha each won an individual event and relay. Spak won the discus and was on the 400 relay. Yencha won the 800 and ran the same distance as part of the winning 3200 relay.

Jalen Rhodes (400 and 1600), Aleah Kranson (400 and 3200) and Rachel Solano (1600 and 3200) each ran on two winning relays.

Pittston Area girls 105, Tunkhannock 41

Jamie Chisdock sprinted to wins in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and 400 relay when Pittston Area defeated Tunkhannock, 105-41.

Abigail Sheerer won both the triple and high jumps.

Mia Barbieri, Maddy Mimnaugh, Anjelica Singer and Tiffany Tuboli ran winning relay legs and took individual events.

Barbieri won the 400 and 1600 relay. Mimnaugh took the 800 and 1600 relay. Singer won the long jump and 400 relay. Tuboli finished first in the 100 hurdles and 1600 relay.

Pittston Area boys 93, Tunkhannock 56

Jimmy Pliska combined wins in the 100- and 400-meter dashes with a triple jump victory while helping Pittston Area defeat Tunkhannock, 93-56.

Naseem Guillaume won the 110-meter high hurdles and was on two winning relays while Matt Ambrose won the long and triple jumps to help the Patriots improve to 2-1 in Division 1.

Meyers boys 105 ½, Wyoming Area 44 ½

Meyers knocked off defending champion Wyoming Area, 105 ½-44 ½, handing the Warriors their first loss in Division 2.

Ryan Marvin, in the 1600, and Marc Anthony Menichiello, in the javelin, won for Wyoming Area. Frank Yurek finished tied for first in the shot put.
