Wyoming Area graduate and University of Connecticut defensive tackle Julian Campenni was named to the All-American Athletic Conference second team on Wednesday.
Campenni, a 6-foot, 306-pound redshirt senior, finished with 27 tackles and five tackles for loss, which was fourth best on the team. He also forced a fumble.He has started 37 games for the Huskies over the past four years.
UConn finished the regular season at 6-6 and is waiting to find out where it will be heading to play in a bowl. The Huskies have been projected to play in the Cure Bowl on Dec. 19 in Orlando, Florida, or the Boca Raton Bowl Dec. 22 in Boca Raton, Florida.
Campenni played two games as a redshirt freshman in 2012. He started 11 games the following season, recording 29 tackles and a sack. He started every game in 2014 and finished with 35 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.
While at Wyoming Area, Campenni was named the Wyoming Valley Conference Coaches’ Small School Most Valuable Player as a senior. He had 105 tackles 34 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and seven forced fumbles He was a Times Leader All-WVC selection and named to the Pennsylvania Sports Writers Class 2A all-state second team.
Campenni also played in the Big 33 Game and the Chesapeake Bay Bowl all-star games.
