KINGSTON — Both Pittston Area and Wyoming Area’s doubles tennis teams were knocked out of District 2 contention on Tuesday at Kirby Park.
But they went down with a fight.
Wyoming Area’s Lauren Perry and Anna Thomas went into the District 2 Class AA doubles championships as the No. 18 seed. The duo had a bye to the second round and picked up a win. Against Wyoming Seminary’s Abbey Capin and Meghan Sarada, the team won 6-3, 6-2.
In the third round against fourth-seeded Sarah Tofilska and Sarah Sposito of North Pocono, however, the duo was stopped in their tracks with a three-set loss 3-6, 6-3, 4-6.
In the first round, Emily Cheskiewicz and Lea Getz took down Riverside duo Mia Capabugo and Sam Labrosky, 6-3, 6-1. The duo fell to MMI Prep in the second round. The duo would fall to Jessica Smith and Libby Pinto 6-2, 6-3.
In the first round of the District 2 Class AAA doubles tournament, Pittston Area’s Sara Swartz and Jessica Borget tamed Scranton’s Megan Musso and Stephanie Lepka in three sets. The duo won the final two sets with easy. In the second round, against the top-seeded duo of Williamsport’s Amanda Southard and Isabe Bauer, the Pittston Area players were defeated in straight sets.
Pittston Area’s Taryn Whitman and MacKenzie Connors bypassed the first round and were defeated by Wallenpaupack’s Zoe Cykossky and Kristen Denniston, 6-1, 6-1.
