EXETER — In a battle of local teams, the home course of Fox Hill Country Club was the venue for the Wyoming Area and Pittson Area battle in Wyoming Valley Conference golf.
With the home course playing a role for both teams, they each turned in two of their best performances of the season. In the end, it was Wyoming Area’s Anthony Shaver who led the Warriors to a 178-187 win over the Patriots on Tuesday.
Adding to the Wyoming Area score were Gavin Gross (44), Nik Athman (46) and Ryan Wrubel (47). For Pittston Area, Allie Craig led the way with a 44. Eric Fritz (46), Brandon Seamon (48) and Chaz Yager (49) rounded out the scoring for Pittston Area.
The Pre-District 2 tournament will be held on Monday, Sept. 28 at Fox Hill Country Club. In Class 2A, the top 16 qualifiers will advance to the District 2 championships on Monday, Oct. 12 at Elmhurst Country Club. In Class 3A, the top 18 boys will qualify for the tournament.
On the girls side, a golfer needs to card a 100 or better to qualify for districts, which will be held the same day and location. The WVC girls qualifier is also on Monday at Fox Hill.
At districts, the top six boys in each classification will advance to the East Regional on Oct. 19, while the top three girls in each class will also move on.

Pittston Area only used scores from Allie Craig (50), Brandon Seeman (53) and Chaz Yeager (56) in a loss to Dallas at Irem Country Club.
Dallas’ Mason Gattuso finished just two-over par, shooting a 38. Alexis Wyandt tallied a 42, Ethan Zawatski scored a 43 and Colin Bowanko finished with a 44 for the Mountaineers.
Coughlin 165
Wyoming Area 174
For Wyoming Area, Anthony Shaver carded a 41, Gavin Kross shot a 42, Nik Athmann scored a 44 and Ryan Wrubel finished with a 47 in a loss to Coughlin.
Coughlin’s Collin Krokos shot a 39 to claim medalist honors. Ryan Keyes had a 40, Tyler Kurilla finished with a 41 and Billy Mills ended the day with a 45 for the Crusaders.
