Pittston Area defeated Greater Wyoming Area, 10-0, in four innings Friday in the opening game of a best-of-three championship series to determine the Section 5 Little League 9-11-year-old softball title.
The series was scheduled to continue Saturday. Game Three, if necessary, will be played Sunday.

Old Forge was the last unbeaten team in the tournament, but Back Mountain came out of the winners’ bracket to beat Old Forge two straight games, including 5-3 for the title July 15.

Duryea suffered a pair of losses and was eliminated from the Section 5 8-10-year-old baseball tournament.
The District 16 champions fell to North Pocono, 13-3, in the opening round Monday, then lost to Back Mountain National, 16-8, in an elimination game Tuesday in Jefferson Township.
Dom Innamorati had a double; Tony Rusincovitch had an RBI single and Paul Salvo added a hit for Duryea in its final game.

Hanover defeated Pittston Township, 17-6, in the July 15 district semifinal.
